Gratitude House provides habilitation and rehabilitation services to twenty-one (21) women, 18 or older, who meet the DM-IV criteria for chemical dependency and/or coexisting mental health disorder. Eight (8) of the twenty-one (21) beds are reserved for pregnant and postpartum women. The services provided include: individual and group counseling, addiction and mental health education, S.T.E.P. parenting classes, case management, self-sufficiency training, career planning, financial planning, recreational therapy, and meditation therapy.

All residential clients receive Dual Diagnosis and Case Management services. The Dual Diagnosis program consists of a board licensed psychiatrist who provides: (1) psychiatric evaluation on all new admits; (2) medication management when appropriate; and (3) weekly consultation/training sessions with clinical staff. The Psychiatrist spends on average six (6) hours per week at Gratitude House.

The program is divided into three distinct phases. The Phase System is designed to provide a structured, supportive, behavioral treatment approach for each client at Gratitude House. Each Phase has a specific purpose, task(s), and privilege(s) that support the development of basic recovery skills. The length of time in each Phase is determined by the individual’s rate of progress and achievement on treatment plan goals and objectives.

Research supports that "chemically dependent women differ from chemically dependent men in specific ways”, patterns of drug use, psychosocial characteristics and physiological consequences of drug use. Therefore women’s gender specific programs, addressing women’s gender specific issues, are more successful. Gratitude House is designed for women by women. We have 39 years of experience focusing on treatment issues that affect women.

Our overall program goals are to assist women in reducing risk factors associated with the progression of substance abuse problems for themselves and their families; assist them in receiving treatment for their substance abuse/dependence; help them to learn new skills for coping and help them to maintain abstinence to insure a better quality of life; and promote enhancement of their lives through employment and development of skills to maintain self-sufficiency. Our goal is to move women through the stages of treatment without regard to the length of time spent in each stage. Our intention is to help women overcome their addictions, deal with specialty issues, regain their independence, and return to society as sober, self-sufficient, productive women. Our goal is to continue to follow women who have been discharged and help them to remain sober and self-sufficient.
