An individual vocational/employment treatment plan
with specific employment skill goals is developed for each client. Once
client and coach agree to the individualized plan, the client moves
into the hands-on training component offered in Phase III.
The second component, hands-on skills training,
is offered to clients when reaching Phase II and takes place in our
Thrift shop. Hands-on training instructs women in cash register operation,
sales, cash management, inventory processing merchandizing display and
other essential duties needed to secure cashier, sales associate, customer
service and merchandizing positions.
Under the supervision of the Job Coach/Vocational Counselor, the client
will:
• Learn computer cash register skills
• Develop customer service/people skills
• Gain retail store skills, such as, inventory control, sales
skills, design and display skills, cash/sales reporting skills, etc.
The job coach/vocational counselor conducts individual and group sessions,
identifies and develop cooperative employment relationships with businesses
in the community, provide job search and counseling support, and provide
job coach support to employed clients.
Our overall program goals are to assist women in
reducing risk factors associated with the progression of substance abuse
problems for themselves and their families; assist them in receiving
treatment for their substance abuse/dependence; help them to learn new
skills for coping; help them to maintain abstinence to insure a better
quality of life; and promote enhancement of their lives through employment
and development of skills to maintain self-sufficiency. We intend to
help these women overcome their addictions, deal with specialty issues,
learn marketable job skills, regain their independence, and return to
society as sober, self-sufficient, productive women. When women can
get and stay sober, enhance their job skills, and gain employment, they
are more likely to become responsible, productive citizens, and to contribute
to society and the community.
